Chasing Your Tale September 26th, 2010

I got sucked under the snow and that is the last I saw of them. The adrenalin is keeping me calm for whatever is coming next. I stopped fighting the mountain of snow, it is futile. It is highly likely I am going to need all the energy I can muster in the coming moments. The sudden realisation that I am about to die and there is absolutely nothing I can do to prevent it is life changing, ironically just all a bit too late! Underground I am being turned over and over. I relaxed and went with the flow. I was sucked deep down below the surface. The lights went out and suddenly everything was quiet, very dark and very still. My only companion… Read the Rest »

It’s reinventing yourself that is key September 26th, 2010

If you think getting to the top of where you want to go is hard, think again, that’s the easy part. Many people achieve it, yet only few manage to sustain it and even fewer go on to greater things. So why is this? I have a theory and I am in good company with some other wiser folk than me with this one too. The theory is this. In order to reach a great height in whatever you do, you have to set it in your sights as a target. You have to know where you are going. Every step counts September 20th, 2010

I dipped my feet into the lake and turned towards the Colonel. He was no longer smiling. “The lives of millions are in your hands.” Emotions were racing through my mind, but I still couldn’t forget the fact that he’d threatened. I stood up. The lake was deep, there was a lot going through my mind. My concentration was broken by Jonathan and Paul who had reached an amicable agreement and were enthusiastically shaking hands. The negotiation course was a success. It had been a goal of mine to hold a training course up in theĀ forest above Beddgelert. Its a 7 mile round trip in total from the house to the secluded lake, Llyn Llwellyn,. It’s great just sitting around the edges of the lake… Read the Rest »

Artist, Owner Operator or Entrepreneur? September 17th, 2010

A million things go through your mind while you are sat there waiting….. I consoled myself saying “it doesn’t really matter” over and over again, but deep down, it does. There is a table full of colleagues and guests all having a great time and there are 125 people back at work relying on me to bring home the trophy. Without them, there is no UKFast. Awards do give everyone in the business a lift. UKFast is a group of amazing, dynamic, innovative people. When UKFast gets nominated for an award, it is the team that deserves the credit. Even though it’s called the Entrepreneur of the Year award, there should be no mistake. This award represents the entrepreneurial spirit in UKFast, the under current… Read the Rest »

The drive to Manchester September 5th, 2010

I closed the big black wrought iron gates. Stared hard back at the home I’d helped build, I painted that house. It was a beautiful home, but one that housed so many sad memories. It reminded me why I was going. I didn’t want to leave, I simply had no other options. I had already said goodbye to my friends at school. It had all happened so quickly. One minute I didn’t have a care in the world, my focus was on next seasons rugby and the place I’d earned on the 1st XV. Then suddenly I was told I couldn’t remain at the school. My parents could no longer afford the school fees. I never really believed this and as I stared through the… Read the Rest »
