Where is the tech capital of the world?
San Francisco and Silicon Valley? Tel Aviv? London? Manchester? It’s very much a title that is up for grabs, and London is launching its claim with the start of London Tech Week (#LTW).
“London is open to talent, entrepreneurs and innovation.”
Those are the words of London Mayor Sadiq Khan as he opens London Tech Week, Europe’s largest tech festival.
Following recent events in the city, this is a wonderful opportunity to show the world the incredible place that London is. On top of that, with the disruption of the election and Brexit, it is fantastic to see the country’s business community coming together to celebrate our capital and its impact on the tech world, on a global stage.
Whilst, of course, we’re a little biased with our pledge to make Manchester the UK’s number one tech city, it is fantastic to hear Mr Khan announce his intentions to see London become ‘the world’s leading smart city’, starting with the appointment of a chief digital officer to work with local authorities and tech businesses on policy for the industry. This could be a revolutionary approach and one that we could be seeing in Manchester too with Andy Burnham’s digital summit.
As part of London Tech Week, a group of the UKFast team have relocated to the capital, hopping aboard the ThinkFaster UKFast Tour Bus! Stopping by key London landmarks from Monday to Wednesday, the bus will host a range of panel events, roundtable discussions and chats with our digital experts.
We’re visiting startups and entrepreneurial hubs, stopping by the ExCel London, and you’ll spot us at landmarks across the city. If you want to get involved, keep an eye on @UKFast Twitter to see where the team are stopping next.
On Wednesday our visit to the capital culminates in the latest Unlocked event, this time at the Shard. Following the extraordinary success of Unlocked Manchester, we’ll once again be offering real-world advice for businesses to protect their data online.
I’ll share more from the event and build-up throughout the week.
